When I was in Istanbul, I met a young Turk who offered his time to show me around. He introduced me to Raki, Turkish coffee, Cay, Sahlep, Ekmek, Kebap, Baklava, Turkish Delight, Simit, and everything Turkish. He took me to Taksim, the Egyptian Spice Bazaar, the Grand Bazaar, Beşiktaş, Eminonu, and the Anatolian city of Izmit. He also enlightened me on the politics of religion (Islam, in particular) and enhanced my knowledge about Turkey's long history. He taught me how to play the board game Backgammon and lost! He walked into a Catholic church with me where I taught him how to make the sign of the cross after dipping his fingers into a vat full of holy water. Most importantly, he helped me realize a dream - to cruise the Bosphorus Strait.
Benim Türk arkadaş, for your time & care, teşekkürler ! I will be forever grateful.
