Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

I was at Barnes & Noble last week looking for a picture book of Paris when I stumbled upon a book called Middlesex. After reading the synopsis, I became very intrigued so I bought it. As of this writing, I'm still reading this book - intentionally taking my sweet time with it. I don't want the story to end so soon. Middlesex is an epic American story that is very well-written, lyrical, unapologetic, thought-provoking, and unconventional in so many ways. I must warn you - it is difficult to read, not in the literary sense but in its content. Go buy it!
