Am I the only one irritated by Mayor Gavin Newsom's stern refusal to take a stand against China and its crimes against humanity? The passing of the Olympic torch through the streets of San Francisco next week would be the perfect opportunity for him to publicly condemn China for atrocities it continues to carry out on Tibet. By speaking out against China during the event would send a message to the entire world that the US does not condone China's actions and that the entire world community must reject China's human rights violations. But no, Gavin acts like a walking dog belonging to some right-wing conservative, wagging his tail in obedience. He insists that everyone focus their attention on the Olympic competition ("not politicize the event," as he says) and turn a blind eye on what goes on in Tibet right now. What the fuck is he smoking? How can anyone watch the Beijing Olympics without thinking about what China is doing in Tibet? Since when did you start becoming so well-behaved, Gavin? This is no time for you to be demure. It's embarrassing, if not pathetic! The issue at hand is important. Get some spine! Have you lost it? Represent, damn it! If you want to maintain your relevance for the purposes of any future political endeavors, I suggest you get some spine, listen to those who put you in office in the first place, and take a stand for what is right. -SZ
